On August 23, 2018, Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management (Tsinghua SEM) held the Opening Ceremony and Orientation for freshmen of Class 2022.
Mansfield Freeman Chair Professor BAI Chong-En, Dean of Tsinghua SEM, Associate Professor ZHAO Dongqing, Deputy Secretary of CPC Committee of Tsinghua SEM and Associate Professor ZHONG Xiaohan, Associate Dean of Tsinghua SEM attended the ceremony with more than 250 freshmen, their family members and friends.
Be simple and be honest
In Dean BAI Chong-En’s opening remarks, he said he believed that “being simple and being honest” is crucial to life. “The ultimate goal of pursing happiness lies in one’s inner peace,” BAI said. “The most important thing is to have a peaceful mind and to be true to yourself.”
Passion and Curiosity
Additionally, BAI emphasized the importance of passion and curiosity. They are fundamental to long-term development. As the world keeps changing and knowledge keeps upgrading, “enjoy learning and creating,” said BAI.
Associate Professor ZHONG Xiaohan, Associate Dean of Tsinghua SEM, introduced the undergraduate education program andprovidedan overview of important elements of the program, including school culture, subject settings, faculty and students, Tsinghua SEM Advisory Board as well as international exchanges.
Professor ZHAO Dongqing, Deputy Secretary of CPC Committee of Tsinghua SEM, emphasized the importance of academic integrity and student discipline.
In academic year of 2018-2019, Tsinghua SEM received 251 freshmen,of which204 are from mainland China, 14 are from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and 33 are international students.
