Dean QIAN started from the definition of “human being” and “talent” and paid tribute to the SEM tradition – compared to cultivating talents, the school always takes important role to help students grow. Founding Dean ZHU Rongji once said, “being a good person is more important than being a government official or an entrepreneur; learning how to be a good human being is more important than learning how to be a good student.” In recent years, Tsinghua SEM has been undergoing a reform on undergraduate education. The school established two main educational goals – to help every student become a modern and civilized person with good characters, while creating an environment that fosters outstanding talents. At the 30th anniversary celebration this year, the school reviewed its three crucial education philosophies, and the first of them was “educating people is more important than educating talents.”
