The EMBA Education Centre of Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management (SEM) held a Press Conference on December 19, 2012 and unveiled an all new curriculum of Tsinghua EMBA Program, consisting of four modules: Corporate Environment, Management Functions, Leadership and People, Inter-Connection and Integration for the first time. Attendees of the Press Conference included Professor QIAN Yingyi, Dean of Tsinghua SEM; YANG Bin, Senior Associate Dean of Tsinghua SEM;WANG Yong, Executive Director of EMBA Education Centre; JIA Li, Deputy Director of EMBA Education Centre and CHEN Rong, Supervisor of EMBA Faculty and Curriculum Development. Reporters from over 40 media and Tsinghua EMBA students and alumni representatives attended the event.
Dean QIAN Yingyi Introduces All New Curriculum of Tsinghua EMBA
Professor QIAN Yingyi, Dean of Tsinghua SEM, started the conference by reviewing the achievements of Tsinghua EMBA Program in the last decade and introducing opportunities and challenges in the next decade. Tsinghua EMBA Program takes pride in over 4,000 alumni and students, world-class faculty, an effective and efficient management team, a set of practical experiences and enjoys prominent a reputation. However, profound changes in the global economy and Chinese enterprises have brought about higher requirements. Against the backdrop of fiercer competition in the EMBA market, Tsinghua EMBA needs to innovate lest we fall behind. Subsequently, Professor QIAN Yingyi gave an in-depth interpretation of the new curriculum.
Four Modules, Four Phases
Professor QIAN Yingyi introduced that the New Decade Blueprint of Tsinghua EMBA Program was formed and named “2012 Plan of Innovative Development for Tsinghua EMBA Program” after ten suggestion-gathering meetings organized by the EMBA Education Centre. The Plan includes six parts: admission, curriculum, teaching method, alumni activities, post-EMBA program and international program. The core of the plan lies in the all new EMBA Curriculum.
Professor YANG Bin Elaborates on All New Curriculum of Tsinghua EMBA
Chinese regulations stipulate that EMBA students should complete at least 32 credits. Tsinghua EMBA program designed 22 credits required courses. Corporate Environment, Management Functions and Leadership and People Modules have at least 6 credits respectively, and at least 4 credits with the Inter-Connection and Integration Module. Besides, 10 credits are allocated to elective courses that allow students to choose courses according to their preferences and needs.
Apart from the four major modules, there are 4 phases which are: orientation and management simulation, mobile campus, overseas study trips, and graduation thesis.
Intensive Courses, World-Class Faculty
The new curriculum of Tsinghua EMBA Program is a platform based on integration of different schools and disciplines. It displays the competitive edge of Tsinghua as a comprehensive university, and Tsinghua SEM as a university-based business school. Apart from Tsinghua SEM, many other schools of Tsinghua University were actively involved in the new curriculum design and construction including School of Humanities, School of Social Sciences, Law School, School of Public Administration, School of Fine Arts, School of Medicine, School of Information Science and Technology, School of Environment, School of Civil and Hydraulic Engineering, School of Mechanical Engineering. Faculty is from Tsinghua SEM, other schools in Tsinghua and renowned overseas business schools.
SEM Launches All New Curriculum of Tsinghua EMBA
Courses taught by Professors from Tsinghua SEM includes: "China's Economy and Finance” co-taught by Professor QIAN Yingyi, Dean of Tsinghua SEM and Mansfield Freeman Chair Professor LI Daokui; “Interpretation of China’s Economic Problems” by Tsinghua Tongfang Chair Professor WEI Jie; “Thinking, Decision and Leadership: Human Side of Organization” by Professor YANG Bin, Senior Associate Dean of Tsinghua SEM; “Corporate Governance of Family Business” by Professor NING Xiangdong, a renowned expert in the field of corporate governance; “Understanding Business across China ” by Professor ZHU Wuxiang, a renowned expert in the field of business models; “Practice and Thinking of Enterprise Management” by part-time Professor LI Rongrong, former Director of State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC).

Renowned overseas faculty includes Chair Professor CHEN Ming-Jer from the Strategy Department in Darden School of Business of University of Virginia, Chairman of the AOM; Chair Professor XIE Jinhong from the Marketing Department in Warrington Business School, University of Florida; prominent Strategic Management Professor Pierre Dussauge from HEC in France.
Dean QIAN’s introduction was followed by an hour-long Q & A session for the media. Reporters had a better understanding of the new curriculum, faculty, and innovative reforms of Tsinghua EMBA Program through discussions in the session.
