Three Tsinghua University alumni, SHI Jinshan, ZHANG Chaoyang and MO, Tianquan, donated seven million RMB for the building of the first museum on Tsinghua campus: Tsinghua University Art Museum. Among the three, SEM alumni SHI Jinshan and MO Tianquan contributed four million RMB.
Tsinghua University began to collect building schemes of the museum in 2002. Now after nearly ten years of preparation, the construction is expected to start in 2011 with Swiss architect Mario Botta as the chief designer.
SHI Jinshan, Executive Director and CEO of Golden Bridge United Financial Leasing, graduated from SEM with an EMBA degree in 2006. He used to fund SEM’s alumni event in 2004, and contributes to SEM’s fund raising events annually. He donated three million RMB for the museum.
The donation ceremony
MO Tianquan graduated as a master’s degree from SEM in 1989. He is now President and CEO of Soufun Holdings Limited. One million RMB in the museum fund came from him this time.
The donation ceremony was held on April 16, 2011. Present at the ceremony were Tsinghua University President GU Binglin, Vice President XIE Weihe and Vice President ZHANG Fengchang.
GU Binglin said, the building of an art museum in Tsinghua University is an essential move for Tsinghua to position itself as a world-class university. He welcomed more efforts and contributions into this project, for running a museum requires long-term input.
