On a faculty meeting of SEM in March 2011, seven faculty members were declared as chair professors.

They are: Mansfield Freeman Chair Professor BAI Chong-en, EMC Chair Professor CHEN Guoqing, Lenovo Chair Professor CHEN Jian, Mansfield Freeman Chair Professor LI Daokui, C.V. Starr Chair Professor LI Hongbin, CCB Chair Professor WEN Yi, and COSCO Chair Professor YANG Baiyin.

Among the chair professors are all SEM members of the One-Thousand Talents Program and all SEM’s Cheung Kong Scholar Professors.

The School has established a standard procedure for the selection of chair professors, which is a part of SEM’s effort to build a comprehensive modern university system. Chair professors are supposed to excel in academic performance and lead the cutting-edge development in each’s specialized areas.

All professorships conferred were named after the funders, who are also responsible for advising the research directions of nominated professors.

In the future, the School plans to solicit funds from more top level enterprises from home and abroad, and to invite more leading academic figures to join the faculty team.
