Two teams of Tsinghua University won the gold and silver awards of the seventh “Challenge Cup” China University Students Business Plan Competition held at Jilin University.
The “Challenge Cup” competition is launched once every two years. It is a student entrepreneurial contest of the highest level in China. Its co-hosts include the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, the Ministry of Education, China Association for Science and Technology, and the All-China Students’ Federation.
Tsinghua winner teams after the competition
In the seventh competition in 2010, there were 160 participant teams from 123 institutes in China.
The two award winning Tsinghua groups are maTHmU Scientific Computing Engine team and Bio-oil team. Among all team members, GAO Yanru, LEI Ming and ZHANG Sipei are from SEM’s Department of Finance, Department of Management Science and Engineering, and the Economics and Finance major.
While preparing their business plans, the two teams received advice from Professor ZHANG Wei of the Department of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
The Bio-oil team’s project focuses on the recycling of waste oils, producing biodiesel and chemical materials out of which. The project holds over 30 patents in China, and has won a first-class scientific and technological progress award of the China Chemistry Industrial Association.
The maTHmU team won the gold prize with the scientific computing engine system they designed for data analysis and calculation in research projects and businesses across industries. A highly developed system, it adopts the cutting-edge technologies and comes very close to leading researches in the world.
