Professor QIAN Yingyi, Dean of SEM, had an evening gathering over banquet with Tsinghua alumni during his trip in New York on October 5, 2010. Though the information was sent out only in the beginning of October, more than 30 alumni signed up for the event within a few days.
The alumni at the event mainly come from the Greater New York area, including ZHANG Qinke, President of Tsinghua University Philadelphia Alumni Association, SU Daqing and TANG Chunlin, President and Associate President of Tsinghua University Greater New York Alumni Association. Among them were several students who have personally studied under Dean QIAN Yingyi.

During the banquet, Dean QIAN Yingyi talked about the reforms in education programs taking place at SEM. He elaborated on the admissions and curriculum innovation of the MBA Program, as well as the undergraduate reform that puts an emphasis on general education and individualized development.
Participating alumni discussed various issues concerning their work and life. Dean QIAN Yingyi learnt about the networking among alumni working in the financial sector, and suggested them to establish a financial alumni association to further communication among Tsinghua students in this area.
Time passes quickly with laughter and joy. The talks continued until 11:00pm when the restaurant was closed. Participants took photos with the Dean before bidding goodbye to each other.
The evening banquet
Dean QIAN Yingyi visited the New York Branch of the Industrial Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) on the next day, accompanied by SEM alumni. A dinner banquet was then held with senior managers of the New York branches of ICBC and the Bank of China. Dean QIAN Yingyi, alumni and guests discussed issues such as China’s banking reform, American financial market access, and Sino-America financial cooperations.
