Professor WEI Jie, Director of the National Center for Economic Research, led a research team to investigate in Yiwu, the largest market city in the world as acknowledged by the UN and the World Bank.

The team members come from the National Center for Economic Research, Doshiha University, and the School of Economics of Remin University of China.

The research mainly focuses on two topics: the establishment, development and current situation of small commodities trading center in Yiwu; the investment modes and financial sources for Yiwu’s transportation, city and business infrastructures.

Local authorities welcomed the research group and made a detailed introduction of the city’s history, explaining some of the research issues.

The team visited trading and distribution centers as well as a local enterprise. They also conducted field work in the countryside of Yiwu.
