On March 29, 2010, Tsinghua SEM's Professor LI Daokui was appointed as a new member of the Central Bank's Monetary Policy Committee.Business Weekand theWall Street Journalreported about the appointment on their websites on the same day.
The reports made a brief introduction of Professor LI Daokui and two other scholars named in the Committee: ZHOU Qiren, Dean of the National School of Development, Peking University, and XIA Bin, Director of the Financial Research Institute under the Development Research Center of the State Council. The reports also explained about the function of the Committee.
According toBusiness Week, the government intends to bring in more scholarly voices to help "averting asset-price bubbles." Both reports quoted Professor LI Daokui's analysis and expectation of the RMB exchange rate debate.
