The International Symposium on Real Estate Investment by Insurance Companies in China was held at Tsinghua SEM on October 30 with the theme of "Position and Role of Real Estate Investment in the Insurance Industry - Experience and Lessons for Practice in China from Global Perspective."
The event was co-organized by China Research Center for Insurance and Risk Management, Tsinghua University, Department of Finance of Tsinghua SEM and the Real Estate Center of College of Business, University of Cincinnati (the United States).
The symposium was held on the occasion of the enforcement of the amended Insurance Law of People's Republic of China. The amended insurance law, which was approved at the seventh meeting of the Standing Committee of the 11th National People’s Congress in February and took effect on October 1, first ever allows domestic insurance companies to invest in bonds, stocks, securities investment fund shares as well as real estate.
Friday's symposium has brought together nearly 100 scholars and professionals from the industries of insurance and real estate. At the symposium, participants discussed topics regarding key issues for insurance companies to invest in the real estate industry as the real estate investment by insurance companies has obtained legal recognition in the country. Will McIntosh, Chief Investment Officer of the Fund Evaluation Group, LLC, who is also former Professor of Real Estate Finance and Dean of the University of Cincinnati's College of Business, and Miao Jianmin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of China Life Insurance (Group) Company were present at the conference.
