The Center for China in the World Economy (CCWE) hosted a special interactive session with Dominique Strauss-Kahn, International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director on November 16.

The session was entitled “Global Economy and IMF Reform.” CCWE Director LI Daokui moderated the event, beginning with an introduction of the keynote speaker. Strauss-Kahn commented on the status and future trends of world economy. He said the economic crisis is not over and further impacts could be expected, but there are already signs of recovery. According to Strauss-Kahn, key factors for the healthy development of world economy include trade balance, reasonable consumption and savings, the growth of emerging markets, guidance via financial and monetary policies, financial system reform and regulations, consensus building and further international cooperation.

In the Q&A session, Strauss-Kahn answered questions from the audience and netizens online. Most of the topics they covered were top concerns of both domestic and international importance, such as the position of US dollar, international currency reserve and Special Drawing Right (SDR), Sino-French economic cooperation, the causes of economic crisis, the role of developing countries in the world, IMF’s reform and future prospects, RMB’s international move, as well as Sino-African relations.
