The annual Tsinghua SEM Recruitment Fair of the fall semester was held in Tsinghua University Science Park’s Garden Lobby on December 8. This year’s fair has attracted recruitment representatives from 31 domestic and international corporations operating in finance, consulting, IT, automobile, real estate and other industries.

The fair was hosted by Tsinghua SEM Career Development Center (CDC). CDC normally would organize three recruitment fairs each year. In addition to the fall fair, there are also a spring semester fair for exchange students coming back to China, and a special fair for students looking for a summer intern.

The announcement of this year’s event was made half a month ago. Almost 50 corporations have formally applied to join, and 160 job vacancies were released on the fair. About 200 Tsinghua SEM’s graduating undergraduates, graduates, doctoral and MBA students went to the fair.

Present at the fair were also several alumni employers, invited by EDP, EMBA and MBA program offices.

Compared with posts released last year, this year’s fair has seen an increase of entry-level and “training on post” vacancies, including “Management Trainee” and “Reserve Cadres.” According to career consultants from CDC, in recent years, employers have been paying increasing attention to employees’ personalities and professional capabilities, attaching more importance to the future potentials of a certain applicant. Therefore, when planning their career path, graduates should not simply ignore entry-level vacancies in the pursuit of higher posts, or they will probably miss good opportunities.

Apart from graduating students, younger students from lower grades were also seen on the fair. “We should prepare ourselves early!” A MBA student said.
