Tsinghua University has issued its official centennial logo on September 17 as the University will formally mark its 100th anniversary in 2011.
Tsinghua University was established in 1911 on the site of "Qing Hua Yuan" - a former royal garden of the Qing Dynasty located in the northwestern suburb of Beijing. The University was initially a preparatory school called "Tsinghua Xuetang" for those students who were sent by the government to study in the United States. Tsinghua Xuetang began its first term on April 29, 1911 and from then on the last Sunday of April was set as the school's anniversary. The name of "Tsinghua Xuetang" was changed to "Tsinghua School" after the 1911 Revolution. In 1925, a university section offering a four-year program for students was established, and the School's name was changed to "National Tsinghua University” in 1928.The University established its graduate school in the autumn of 1929. During the past 100 years, Tsinghua University has graduated 160,000 students who have made exceptional contribution to the national development and social progress.
The Tsinghua University centennial logo mainly composes of the pattern of Tsinghua Anthodium, and the number "100"; the dominant color derives from the color of external wall of the Anthodium. To mark the University's upcoming centennial, a new building for “Tsinghua Xuetang” will be built on the western side of the Main Building. And the University also plans to build a Tsinghua Museum as well.
