Tsinghua SEM has welcomed 248 new students from across the country to its undergraduate program on August 22, 2007, four days after the conclusion of Beijing Olympics. Among students admitted to Tsinghua SEM this year, there are 18 international students and 30 for sports class.

The registration time was from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Most students have arrived at the campus before 5:00 p.m.. Chen Yuexi, a freshmen from Southeast China's Fujian Province, said she felt she liked Tsinghua after visiting here three years ago, though initially she hadn't planned to apply for Tsinghua. Asked why she chose Tsinghua, she said she felt "Tsinghua SEM was the best among schools of economics and management across the country."

A discussion session between new students’ parents and school faculty members was held later in the day. The session was attended by Qian Yingyi, Dean of Tsinghua SEM, Zhu Yan, Associate Dean of the School, Qian Xiaojun, Assistant Dean of the School and Zhu Yujie, Director of Academic Affairs Office of the School, as well as nearly 200 new students’ families.

Dean Qian said the School will make its best efforts to create good environment and more opportunities for students' development, making the potential of each student fully developed during their study at the School; the School will provide personalized guidance on students' life and study at campus, which would help them know more clearly about the direction of their future development.

Dean Qian also talked about several highlights in the School's development since August. a, on August 24, five days ago, faculty and students of Tsinghua witnessed the historical moment as the athletes participating in Olympic Marathon passed the School. b, Hu Kai, currently a graduate student at Tsinghua SEM created historically best records for China in men's 4×100m relay and men's 400m sprint of Beijing Olympics respectively on August 21 and August 15. c, 145 students from Tsinghua SEM provide volunteer service during Beijing Olympic period. d, On August 8, the same day with the grand opening of Beijing Olympic Games, Tsinghua SEM Advisory Board meeting took place at the Main Building of the University. Nearly 30 CEOs from the world top 500 companies attended the meeting. Participants attended the opening ceremony of Beijing Olympic Games after the meeting.

During the session, faculty members answered questions from parents concerning major option, interest development, overseas exchange and career plan, etc..

In the evening, the School’s professors and staff members visited student dorms and chatted with the new students, where the freshmen talked about their hometowns, graduation schools and their hobbies, etc..
