In March 2008, the annual sessions of National People’s Congress and Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) have been held in Beijing. Among the NPC and CPPCC deputies or members from across the country, 30 are Tsinghua SEM faculty members or Tsinghua SEM alumni.

Renowned economist, Professor LI Daokui, Chair of the Department of Finance was elected the CPPCC member. 9 SEM undergraduate, graduate and MBA alumni were elected NPC/CPPCC members or deputies. They are, Deputy Chairman of Shanghai Federation of Industry and Commerce FU Xinhua, Chairman of the Board of Guangdong Holdings LI Wenyue,CEO & Managing Director of JPMorgan China FANG Fang, Minister of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission YANG Jianqiang, Vice Chairman of Education, Science, Culture and Public Health Committee of 11th NPC XU Rongkai, Chairman of the Board of Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Company ZUO Yan-an, Chinaman of China Unicom CHANG Xiaobing, former world speed-skating champion YE Qiaobo, President of Beijing SevenStar Science &Technology Company YANG Wenliang.

21 EMBA alumni, as representatives of China's outstanding enterprises, were elected as NPC/CPPCC members or deputies. Among them are mayor of Huzhou city MA Yi, Chairman of China Southern Airlines LIU Shaoyong, and Vice General Manager of China Nuclear Power Engineering Corporation LIU Wei, etc..
