On April 17, 2008, the Tsinghua SEM Summer Internship Fair was held at Tsinghua Science park. The on-campus fair, organized by Tsinghua SEM Career Development Center (CDC), has attracted 36 employers including PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ernst & Young, Raycompark, Alstom, OpenTide, and Guotai Asset Management Company as well as more than 300 student who will graduate in 2009-the number of the participants, both recruiters and students, has hit a historical high. The on-campus fair provided nearly 100 positions for summer internship, with 200 students needed.

On the same day, five employers, Yongcheng Coal &Electricity Group, Mercer Consulting, Simcere Pharmaceutical Group, Lining Group, and Dabaihui Group were formally invited to be Tsinghua SEM internship bases. Associate Dean of Tsinghua SEM, Professor Chen Zhangwu conferred the certificates to the company representatives, saying he hoped to see more companies attach importance to student internship, which will benefit the sustainable development of the company’s human resources development in the long run. So far, 24 renowned companies covering diverse industries have been on the list of Tsinghua SEM internship bases.

According to CDC, Summer Internship Program is a common way used by a lot of employers in their campus recruitment. Employers recruit and assign a number of students into a short-term project or a certain position. The company will evaluate students’ performance and choose thosethey think are suitable. As for the students, the internship program provides them with more opportunities to get familiar with the industries and companies, and know better their career direction. The summer internship program often starts in July and ends in August, which accordingly is called summer internship program. To promote the summer internship program and create more job opportunities for our students is one of the major tasks of CDC.
