The Emerson Electric Company and Tsinghua MBA Association have jointly hosted "The Emerson Day" onNovember 29, 2007. Emerson’s representatives including Former CEO and Chairman Emeritus of Emerson Electric Charles F. Knight, Chairman, CEO and President of Emerson Electric- Asia Pacific David N. Farr, and Peter K. Yam, President of Emerson Greater China visited Tsinghua SEM on the day. Yang Bin, Associate Dean of Tsinghua SEM, Zhu Hengyuan, Associate Dean of Tsinghua SEM, Mao Donghui, Director of Tsinghua MBA Center met with the Emerson delegation.
During the activity, Charles F. Knight delivered a speech to Tsinghua students, sharing with students on experience of Emerson’s business success. In particular, he talked about Emerson's unique strategic structure of the platform management. Knight, now as Emerson's Chairman Emeritus, stepped down in 2000 after 27 years as CEO, and retired as chairman in 2004. During his tenure as CEO, Emerson’s sales rose more than 16-fold to over $15 billion, and net earnings increased 18-fold to more than $1.4 billion. Emerson Electric is among the FORTUNE Global 500.
In the afternoon, an exhibition about Emerson Electric was held at the lobby ofShundeBuilding. The exhibition gave a detailed introduction on the company's history, culture, and its business areas, etc..
Thursday's activity was part of Tsinghua MBA program’s efforts in promoting its ties with businesses, which aims to provide students with opportunities to know better of the business philosophy of renowned international companies and the practice of management within companies, and to learn from their experience on business success.
