Professor Qian Yingyi, Dean of Tsinghua SEM has met with the visiting co-founder and managing director of the Carlyle Group, David M. Rubenstein onJuly 23, 2007. The meeting was also attended by Professor Yang Bin, Associate Dean of Tsinghua SEM and Professor Zhu Hengyuan, Associate Dean of Tsinghua SEM.

Mr. Rubenstein expressed congratulations on the success of "Tsinghua PE Fellowship Selection." The competition was organized by Tsinghua MBA Finance Club, Tsinghua Student Finance Association and sponsored by the Carlyle Group. Mr. Rubenstein presented the organizers with the laureate cup and gave awards of excellence to the top five students in the selection.

During the meeting of two sides, SEM Dean Qian Yingyi briefed the visitors on the history of the School, saying he expects further cooperation with the Carlyle Group on the development of Tsinghua SEM. Mr. Rubenstein introduced the Carlyle Group, expressing his interest in supporting education. The two sides discussed on the current situation and the future of global education and exchanged viewpoints on other topics of common concern.

Mr. Rubenstein is dedicated to the promotion of development of education. He is on the Board of Directors or Trustees of a number of institutions of higher education includingDukeUniversity,JohnsHopkinsUniversity, theUniversityofChicago, and theLincolnCenterfor the Performing Arts (Vice Chairman).

The Tsinghua PE Fellowship Selection lasts for 9 months. The top 5 students are Qin Wen (Economics 2003), Bai Ye (Economics 2005), Liu Bibo (Economics 2005, graduate), Cheng Jiuyan (Economics 2005, graduate), Hou Qingyang (Journalism 2006). The students would be awarded Tsinghua PE Fellowship which is $10,000 each and a free visit to the Carlyle Group in theUnited States.
