Tsinghua SEM has welcomed 226 new students from across the country to its undergraduate program onAugust 22, 2007.
The registration time was from7:00 a.m.to5:00 p.m.The avenue to their dormitory building was decorated with balloons and flags, special for the arrival of those best students strictly selected out from the country.

Tsinghua SEM has enrolled 243 new undergraduates this year, according to Professor Qian Xiaojun, Assistant Dean of Tsinghua SEM, including 17 international students coming fromSouth Korea, thePhilippines,Malaysia, andKyrgyzstan, who will register themselves in September. The domestic students come from 33 provinces and regions inChinaincludingHong Kong,MacauandTaiwan.
A discussion session between new students’ parents and School leaders was held later in the day. The session was attended by Qian Yingyi, Dean of Tsinghua SEM, Zhu Hengyuan, Associate Dean of the School, Qian Xiaojun, Assistant Dean of the School and Zhu Yujie, Director of Academic Affairs Office of the School, as well as nearly 100 new students’ families.
In his presentation at the session, Dean Qian Yingyi said he should first thank all the students for their choosing Tsinghua SEM, adding that “he feels greater responsibility.” For the 2007 undergraduates, Dean Qian said, as they set out on their educational journey, they already have something special to look forward to: Tsinghua is part of the 2008 Olympic Marathon route, students therefore could witness the special moment next year when the Marathon players run across the university campus from its west gate to the east gate; moreover, when the students pick up their diplomas in 2011, Tsinghua will celebrate not only their graduation but the 100th anniversary of the University’s founding.

Dean Qian also briefed students’ parents on the undergraduate program at Tsinghua SEM. Since this year, part of courses for the first-year undergraduates will be taught in English, and students will enjoy more opportunities to study abroad as exchange students. In particular, he talked about the newly launched major for undergraduate program---Economics and Finance. He said the combination of Economics and Finance will help students set a solid foundation for their further academic research and application.
In his presentation, Dean Qian also talked about the new educational mentality the School holds recent years. He said Tsinghua SEM was making efforts in giving students a “general education”, which is to provide an essential foundation and broad academic base for students in all curricula. Dean Qian said Tsinghua has always put emphasis on the students’ quality; the University didn’t expand its enrollment as other universities recent years, and this has guaranteed the high quality of Tsinghua students. Adopting the internationally advanced educational mentality and approaches, Tsinghua SEM aims to make the potential of each student fully developed during their study at the School and cultivate future elite business leaders, renowned scholars and visionary government officials forChinaand the world.

In the evening, the School’s professors and staff members visited student dorms and chatted with the new students, where the freshmen talked about their hometowns, graduation schools and their hobbies, etc.. Particularly, Dean Qian Yingyi and Professor Qian Xiaojun recalled their study at Tsinghua as undergraduate students 30 years ago, encouraging students to cherish the present time and take full advantage of Tsinghua resources to make greater progress in their future life.
