The World Economic Forum assembled world leaders and chief executives for its first ever annual meeting of the New Champions, also known as the "Summer Davos", from September 6 to September 8 inChina's northwest city ofDalian. Professor Qian Yingyi, Dean of Tsinghua SEM attended the forum's session of "China's New Economy: Beyond Manufacturing" on September 6 and the workspace of " Building a Sustainable Company" on September 7.
The three-day meeting has drawn nearly 2,000 participants including government officials, scholars and business leaders from 90 countries and regions. Ten plenary sessions and more than 60 panel discussions were carried out during the meeting. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao addressed the opening session of theDalianmeeting.
The World Economic Forum (WEF), formerly the European Management Symposium in Davos, was founded by Klaus Schwab in 1971. The organization is committed to improving the state of the world by engaging leaders in partnerships to shape global, regional and industry agendas.
Starting from this year, WEF will hold an annual Summer Davos inChina. AfterDalian, the next annual meeting of the New Champions forum will be held inTianjinnext year.
