Prof. Robert Barro, world-renowned economist, visited and delivered a speech at Tsinghua on June 1.
Tsinghua Vice President Gong Ke met and had a talk with Prof. Barro before the speech. On behalf of the University, Vice President Gong welcomed Prof. Barro to Tsinghua and introduced students, alumni, and the School of Economics and Management of the University.
After the talk, Prof Barro delivered a speech titled “Religion and Economy” in the Reception Hall of the Main Building. He talked about the interplay between religion and economy and introduced some related theories and studies. After the speech, Prof. Barro answered several questions from the seated students.
Prof. Barro was conferred the title of Honorary Professor of Tsinghua University for his outstanding achievements in the areas of macroeconomics, economic growth, and monetary theory. The ceremony in honor of the award was held before the speech. Vice President Gong awarded the letter of appointment to Prof. Barro. Also attended the ceremony were Prof. Chen Guoqing, Vice Dean of School of Economics and Management and Prof. Bai Chongen, Chair of Department of Economics.
Robert J. Barro is Paul M. Warburg Professor of Economics at Harvard University and a senior fellow of the Hoover Institution of Stanford University.
