XI Jinping, Chinese President, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, chaired a symposium on economic and social work on August 24 and delivered an important speech. He stressed that the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025) will mark the first five years of China's new journey toward fully building a modern socialist country and march toward the second centenary goal, noting that China's development will enter a new stage. XI called for long-term perspective, taking in broad range of ideas and making plans according to the newest situation.
Dean BAI Chong-En of School of Economic and Management, Tsinghua University, was present at the symposium and shared a written speech.
