On September 26, Futian District Government in Shenzhen and Tsinghua SEM have signed to cooperate in developing the Shenzhen Institute of Economics and Management (Futian),Tsinghua University, which will propel high-quality development of the District as well as talent cultivation for Shenzhen and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), and also marked a historical event in the development of Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (SIGS).
CPPCC member SONG Hai, administrators from Shenzhen and faculty from Tsinghua have attended the signing ceremony, including HUANG Wei, District Mayor at Futian District, BAI Chong-En, Dean of Tsinghua SEM and GAO Hong, Executive Dean at SIGS.
As CHEN Yubo, Associate Dean at Tsinghua SEM, hosted the ceremony, HUANG and BAI signed the cooperation agreement on behalf of Futian Government and Tsinghua SEM.
Prior to the ceremony, Futian Government and Tsinghua SEM have discussed on further introducing top talents in humanities and social sciences at home and abroad, fostering high-end talent cultivation, strengthening strategic decision-making consultation and cooperation, promoting the construction of innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem, accelerating the application of scientific and technological achievements, and jointly building Shenzhen Institute of Economics and Management (Futian), Tsinghua University.
As a leader of Chinese higher education, Tsinghua SEM has taken the lead in obtaining top-level accreditation of AACSB and EQUIS in management, and ranks globally high in personnel training, scientific research, social influence and international exchanges.
In December 2018 and January 2020, Shenzhen Government and Tsinghua University have already signed two strategic cooperation agreements, which have been realized by the latest signing and put into action.
According to the plan, the Institute will focus on these following tasks: First, basing on the Shenzhen and GBA’s needs in high-quality development and gradually developing PhD, Master, EMBA, Executive Education programs; Second, telling the “Shenzhen stories” and establish a think tank authority; Third, gathering top talents in Futian; Fourth, building training programs for innovative management in SIGS, and give full play to the role of the Tsinghua SEM in innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem. Both the local government and the School will endeavor to provide a benchmarking project for higher education, a successful example of cooperation in education, and a vivid case for urban university.
The official establishment of Shenzhen Institute of Economics and Management (Futian), Tsinghua University will not only help Tsinghua SEM to contribute to the development of Shenzhen and GBA, but also help Futian to gather high-end industries and attract top talents.
Futian District, as the administrative, financial, cultural, commercial and international exchange center of Shenzhen, has preliminarily formed a modern industrial system of "finance + technology + culture". In order to build an urban higher education that grows with the city, Futian District has strengthened its comprehensive cooperation with top oversea universities in recent years, promoting the "high-end and extensive" urban university mode in which universities and the city can develop together and industry can integrate with research, and adding new impetus for Shenzhen to evolve into a Greater Bay Area core city.
In the future, Futian District and Tsinghua SEM will continue to cooperate in building a high-value platform for Beijing-Shenzhen integration, Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation, integration of industry and research and communication among alumni, while escorting Futian, Shenzhen and GBA to achieve high-quality leap-forward development.
Administrators in Futian District, faculty at Tsinghua SEM and more than 200 Tsinghua Alumni have attended the ceremony.
After the ceremony, Tsinghua SEM held a Shenzhen alumni event. YANG Bin, Vice President at Tsinghua University, delivered a video speech. Alumni representative MENG Man, associate District Mayor at Futian District, and founder of TCL, LI Dongsheng, attended the event and congratulated on the cooperation.
